The Methodist Lectionary is a version of the ecumenical Revised Common Lectionary. Lectionary tables allow the finding of the readings designated for the principal and secondary services for each Sunday and certain holy days and special occasions on a three-year cycle. The purpose of this index is to enable preachers to look up the days for which any particular passage is assigned.

Some Sundays at the end of the Epiphany season and at the end of the lectionary year rarely occur. Some passages are very rarely read because they are allocated to these Sundays. In churches that do not have a second service, the readings in the secondary list may never be used. Preachers may find a goldmine by looking at some of these.
